Second Son Woodworks + Caleb Stumberg

Caleb has always had a passion for combining hands-on work with problem-solving. Growing up in Helena, MT, he developed his skills in using basic tools and materials to repair homes and apartments alongside family and friends. After relocating to Seattle for university, Caleb and his roommates faced the challenge of needing a dining table for their old Queen Anne home. In a collaborative effort, they crafted a cottage-style table and benches from reclaimed lumber, perfectly fitting a small nook in the kitchen. As they carefully polished the wood with orange oil and steel wool, Caleb realized his deep connection to woodworking.

This pivotal experience inspired him to establish Second Son Woodworks in 2016, marking the beginning of his journey in custom woodworking. That year, he began taking on custom projects and creating unique furniture for Seattle residents.

After returning to Helena shortly after graduating from university, Caleb continued to develop Second Son Woodworks, focusing on custom woodworking projects for clients with a passion for quality craftsmanship. In 2018, he expanded his reach by launching a YouTube channel, where he began sharing his woodworking expertise through videos. His first video, released in February of that year, was a tutorial on creating a rolling workbench. Today, his channel has over 17,500 subscribers, over 4.3 million views, and a library of over 400 videos. To explore his helpful and engaging content, be sure to visit the Second Son Woodworks YouTube channel, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and Facebook; links at the bottom of this page.

Now based in Santa Barbara, CA, Caleb operates Second Son Woodworks, providing fine furniture for Santa Barbara and the surrounding areas. He handles numerous custom projects for clients and is eager to welcome new clients.

In addition, Caleb has recently introduced a new service to Santa Barbara and the surrounding areas. He offers to turn fallen trees, whether due to storms or at the end of their life cycle, into one-of-a-kind furniture pieces. By visiting the client's property, Caleb mills the wood into usable lumber, assists with the drying process, and then crafts unique, heritage pieces that hold deep sentimental value, serving as a lasting reminder of the tree that once held special meaning to them.

Caleb also has locally sourced live edge slabs, harvested in the Santa Barbara area, available for sale. Be sure to check for inventory if you’re interested in these unique materials. If you're interested in commissioning a piece or sponsoring Second Son Woodworks, don't hesitate to get in touch. Thank you for visiting!
